copy...
thanks for the help,
I'm still interested to know how a trapezoid shaped rooms with splayed walls fit into these ratios

Are you suggesting to go with a rectangular shape for the CR?

No sir, actually I wasn't suggesting.

I had to look back over the thread and I see you have picked out a set of ratios that you are already working with. :)

As has already been commented on, a control room needs balance/ symmetry for no other real reason then the fact that you have two ears.

If this is modified, in relation to your two ears, early reflections and even direct reflections could cause mixing errors based on what you think you are hearing.

I wouldn't say "don't do that" but I would say, educate yourself on the whys and wherefores in respect to having a trapezoidal control room.

Now an isosceles trapezoid...that's worth looking into.

Why are you angling the walls? This may help understand my question.

ok guys we were able to tape out the locations of the control room walls in the space this weekend:
Not as pretty as in on the computer, but we made it work.

our final dimensions for the room:

Image

W: 6'10" (front), 9' 8" (rear)
L: 11'11"
H: TBD
the walls angle at 8deg

Structurally I've been trying to keep it as symmetrical as possible, but with that front wall it's a little tough.

Symmetry was also sacrificed to get the door to work into the room on the left.
we had to move it away from the wall a bit, and in doing so had to shrink down the window on that side.

There was a concern with visibility in reguards to the window positioning especially into the room room to the right, which will be the main tracking room.

by placing the 3x4' window as close to center as possible on the right wall, I think this has been solved, with a clear line of sight from almost anywhere in the CR to the next room.

eventually i'd like to build in a soft soffit enclosure for the entire front wall like so:
3'6" up and then 10deg downward slant.

it's tricky figuring out how to include a secondary set of speakers

I'm trying to keep this all in mind in this design
you can check out the sketchup file here:

-still trying to figure out what to do for the ceiling height.
any thoughts?
