Hi!
First of all thanks john for the info in this site, is excelent, theres always something new to learn...
I have a simple question, but couldn´t find the solution in other posts, so here it is.

Im building a room in a room studio, but the place im going to rent already has some drywall constructin, so i was wondering if i could save some money re-using some of the existing walls,

the green and red drywalls are the existing ones,
the yellow ones are new
the red one i will take it so that it doesnt create a 3 leaves system.
for the ISO/CR wall im planning on unscrew the iso leaf, create a double wall without touching the existing cr wall and screw again the drywall...
the ceiling is something i must check the way it was originally buit up.

Note: Ill be adding to every existing drywall layer a 12.5mm gypsum board for more mass.

Sooo.. my question is:
1 - Is my relax area an issue acoustically for the live room? because i think it would be some kind of big air lock.. or im wrong??
2 - is it necesary to build another wall allong the live room? (blue wall)

well thats all for now... thanks very much for reading.
if theres any information you need please let me know.

Bye

if you can disassemble the drywall for re-use then go for it. otherwise an option is to cut to fit between studs to add more mass to the walls.

I would most likely make the Relax room wall directly behind the Control Room part of the mass/spring/mass assembly.

This will be a weak area if not done and you know how those musicians can get loud when they are not playing but just TALKING behind your Control room :)

you mean to decouple the wall between the Control Room and the Relax Room (like I proposed with the ISO)? or are you talking of another wall.

Thanks for your time! :D :D

if you cannot get the middle drywall off clean, consider cutting into strips so you can fit it between the studs for additional mass.

Ok, got it, the problem is that it was done with steel studs.. so it would leave weak points where the studs are, am i right?

if the studs are dependent on the drywall for stability you may have other issues around how much mass the walls could actually support.

sorry, I meant weak acoustically because there would be strips without the double gb layer and no wood stud to equalize the mass...

either way, you're planning on increasing the mass, the strip and re-use was just an option.
