Hello Everyone. I was referred to this forum by someone on the vintage synths webcite to seek some advice for my situation. I am an aspiring electronic musician with a small recording set up which involves recording as well as the typical "in the computer" electronic stuff. I am however interested in making lots of recordings with my condenser mic, these will include things such as : found sounds/ percussion (sounds of water, paper, shakers, cans, keys etc) as well as acoustic and electric guitar (synth through guitar amp also). There will be no vocals and probably no recording of live loud drums, just percussion (shakers, tambs and whatever else I find)

My setup is in a simple rectangular basement bedroom with concrete carpeted floor, dry wall all around and ceiling tiles overhead (light weight chip board painted which rattles with high volume bass). Everything takes place in this one room, there is no control room or separate room I currently am facing one of the long walls, however from what I gather I should move my set up so that the monitors are at least 3 feet away from the wall and so that the furthest wall is behind me to reduce early reflections. I should also put some sort of absorption behind the monitors to absurd the bass as well...

I do not wish to go and spend upwards of 1000 dollars for amazing treatment however I was hoping that you could all provide me with suggestions on the most critical adjustments/ modifications/ simple treatment I could make to improve the sound quality of the recordings and the monitoring. Again, not only do I not have a huge budget but the music that I make is not what you would call hi- fi and I often employ a good amount of deliberate noise anyways, but I would like to capture the best signal possible in a limited budget, guerilla sort of way... *the one problem I have noticed is when I record even hand claps I can hear this short but noticeable tinny reflection tail...

Also, when recording things especially through the amp I have heard that a good thing to try on a small budget is to make an enclosure out of blankets with chairs to insulate the amp and mic from the surrounding room. What do you all think about this?

any help or tips would be very appreciated. Thanks

Dude, you cannot ask a question like this and expect an answer, it's like asking what color is blue :)

The dimensions of the room are creating this issue, so we have to know those numbers. It is most likely flutter from two parallel hard boundaries (the sheetrock walls), but really, who can tell where at this point.
