Hey Guys,

I'm planning to build a basement studio. Thanks to all the resources on this forum, i finally managed to draw myself a floorplan.

If you have the time check it out, and give me your toughts or issues on my design. So i can improve if necessary.

I forgot to mention in the plans but ceiling height is only 2,2m in the inner leaf. ceiling floor to ceiling 2,5m
Between al the walls and all the rooms I used a 10cm airgap.

I also included the sketchup file so you can check it out.

Thanks upfront.

I don't think I would want my chillout room on the opposite side of the control room from the studio entrance. Any time someone comes or goes, they have to go through the control room, which can be really distracting. But maybe that's just me. :D

I was thinking the same thing about the chill-out room!

The sound lock also seems to be wasting some space, and I think if you turn the control room around and slide it over a bit, you could put in some glass and get a nice view of the live room.

Just a suggestion...

Also, the doors in the rear of the control room are right where the bass traps should go, for maximum effect. I would move the doors further forward, to allow space for those.

Hey uys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Stuart I flipped and shifted the contol room for the basstraps and the better view! Good one there,

But because of the shift I had to take some of the misses storage room. no prob there, but I also lost my storage/ vocal booth because of it.
That's a bummer.

Maybe I can make the voc booth where the big storage is on the top left. I'll try. (OK this an edit of the post: I just tried the voc booth but then I'll have to make a double door again!, because when some laughing guys are in the chill out, this affects the voc booth.)

Concerning the chill out, I don't see any mre space to put it except for where it is now. Or i'll have to use up all of the misses storage, and she ain't gonna be happy with that! lol!

any suggestions guys?

Hey guys,

I was thinking, isn't it possible to make the airlock also a voc booth?
When I put some extra doors in? one on the live room side and one on the other side.

So it becomes a multi functional airlock.
so no waste of space like stuart said.

What ya think?

Here's another curve ball for ya: If you slide the control room all the way over to the left (all the way up to the "misses storage"), then you can move the sound lock to the other side, with its door into the live room, so you no longer have to go through the control room to get to the chill-out room: now you can also go through the live room. And since the live room already has another door, you now have two paths to everywhere.

Yes, you could use the sound lock as an iso booth. You could even design the chill-out room to do double duty as an emergency second "min-live room"... for drums, for example.

Just some more ideas... :)

Lol!

You read my mind Stuart, I was working on that same idea!

I think it's going te be the best solution yet!
I'll send it through as soon as possible!

But i don't understand how you manage to get 2 doors into the live room?

Thanks for all the help!

Hey Stuart,

Here it is,

I'm still wondering of leaving the voc booth out of the picture. it takes up a lot of space. Or I'll have to find another way to fit it in.

With the 2 doors in the live room did you mean to move the entrance of the studio from control room to live room?
As you can see on the bottom of the live room there is a door bricked shut. I can leave it open. It's also easier for me to get the material inside(Drums etc.)

But i'm a bit scared of making a door there, Doors are verry fragile when it comes to isolation. And as i mentioned in the construction thread it's going to be used for bandpractise.
So verry loud. So I haven't decided on that part yet.

For now... Tell me what ya think hombre!

greets

Nillis
