are those ceiling beams attached to the exterior walls?
Why not attach'm to your new walls to prevent flanking.
(like making a "real" room-in-a-room construction)

RO i have attached the rafters to the interior brick wall of the booth, is there a problem in doing this and what is flanking?

Andre, in seeing that the space was not enough, we decided to work with the little space that we had.

thank you

Ruffriddims

As per Ro, your ceiling rafter beams are attached to the brick wall and not to the top of the timber walls. It would be much better if they do not touch the brick walls at all, and you achieve an isolated room within the room.
Rather they should be fastened to the top of the timber frame wall beams with a solid connection - angle bracket and nails ETC. Preferably they should sit on the top of the wall, but also on top of a vertical timber stud.

Sometimes it may seem that the walls are a bit floppy, this can be corrected by diagonal pieces on the back side of the frames, but still not touching the wall anywhere. The plasterboard is also going to help stiffen up the walls as well.

Flanking is when the sound can now travel through the ceiling and onto the ceiling rafter beams, then along the beams and then onto the brick wall by direct connection. Flanking can occur anwhere that your inner room frames touch direct to the outer room frames or structure. Ideally you want to avoid all flanking paths for the sound. The timber frame walls should also not touch the brick walls at any point anywhere.

Your studio is coming along!
Looks like you are thinking ahead to the next huge project!!!
Good luck!

Marz

Hi Marz

Its great to see a brother near by.

The measurements I got for framing gave me measurements that semed to flush on the wall, although the rafters i put there and honestly didnt know that that would cause a problem.

From the drawing that I get there will be very little dry wall mainly between the sliding doors that serate the booth and the control room. the rest of the room seems to be resonator. I will upload some image so that They show exactly what i am talking about.

I will think have to wait a bit to know exactly what I have to do , but will ask Glenn, if its okay for the framing to touch the walls or not.

I will try and sort out the floppyness of some of the framing.

THanks

Moemedi

here are the examples of the Jpegs of the finish. the measurements are flush on the wall and do touch the wall. but i might have to look for thicker rubber foam, i bout soem but its too small.

There's plenty 'o info on placing speakers in the... "speaking of speakers" forum! It should be in your designplans already, not while building.

Hey there Moemedi

Gr8 to see your build! i am from south africa and have also been on this forum with my build so i know what you are going through, my place is almost done but i think it will take years for my mind to become normall again, its a sterssful job building your first studio as there are so many things that can go wrong, your build is looking good, keep up your dream and it will look gr8! i see you have attracted help from the best here on the site!

Just out of curiosity, how much brick force did you guys build into the walls? every how many layers?

if you want to check out my build follow the link, perhaps you will also learn from my build, i had a corrugated iron roof in but we ripped it out eventually and it cost alot of money, im still searching for a solution to sound proff my roof.

Hi to every one is this life changing website, set up by the Great John L Sayers and His Friends , Like Glenn AND all those that are involved.

We have been busy working, we have been insulating and have put some acoustic hangers in the spaces in the roof. I think things are coming a long quite well.

We shall be trying to complete the soffits tomorrow. we are really having fun doing this but this insulation part is really itchy. Does any one know if ROck wool is this itchy? maybe next time i will have to try and order rock wool and ship it here beacuse, this is quite itchy.

I will keep you posted.

Later

HI every one

Hey good, good to see you coming through, glad you well.

we have been busy building the soffits and still busy working on the . We have also started pipling and then cabling for electricity and air conditioning. I have attached some images of the soffits, see below.

There are spaces gaps between the framing and the wall in the passage, space between the control room and booth. this was also cause by the fact that the brick work was not level so there are spaces btween those space. Should i close up this space with cement plater then put insulation and then cover with gypsum plaster board? we will soon be getting to that section of the studio, so hopefully we will get a reply before then.

Thanks to all that have taken time to read and assist. thank you evry much.
