I'm building right now. The room is 12x16, there is a bulkhead on one side of the room, about 3' wide. I've put 703 on the front wall, I've used it as tiles in a suspended ceiling, and then along the entire back wall, covering the door with it as well. The mixing desk along the front wall is flanked by two closets- one on either side. I've used the studs in the closets to permanently attach a mixing desk. The desk is therefore 2.5 fet deep, and 6 feet long. My plan is to cover those two side walls in 3" acoustic foam. I also hope to use some foam where the first reflection points are along the side walls (using the mirror trick). The floor is hardwood laminate. I guess my question is-does this sound right so far? Am I making a good space. My concerns are a) I Haven't got bass traps angled at the corners b) I've relied too much on 703 to absorb the bass c) the back wall is too dead. c0 The closets and walls ajacent to the desk on either side are going to create a poor space for the monitors to sit. Just to be clear, this was my design. I'm no pro- at all! I'm now having some worries that my design was really stupid!

Just to be clear, I mentioned I'd put foam on the side walls, I ,meant the ones on the closets immediatiatly flanking the desk. I'm going to put more (squares about 4x4) on thee primary reflection points on the main walls.

It may help if you can post a layout of your set up but just a few things to help you get going.

1)Face the short wall, firing the speakers down the long wall.
2)Start with sitting around 38% of the room if possible.
3)Straddle as many corners as possible with mineral wool or rigid fiberglass panels that are 4 or more inches thick.
4)Cover the back wall with 6" panels to help with nulls and peaks coming from that area.
5)Place thinner panels on the first reflection points (right/left wall and ceiling)

See that following page as a guide to get you going.

What do you mean by that?

sorry I typed a little fast. You want your seating spot to be around 38% of the room length. So at 16 feet that would place your head around 6' from the front wall. Note that the 38% is only a starting point. You may find that moving forward or back a little may yield a better response.

Hi Hammerlz,

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written in the post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
