Finally managed to get a builder out to check the place out. (BTW, Sideshow, thanks heaps for your suggestion, but I ended up going with someone else because your guy seemed to be a bit hard to get hold of or busy. I appreciate the help, though! )

We're totally cool to knock down walls and do all of the stuff we need to do to make John's last plan work and he says it's possible to get it all done by February, all for under $25,000 if things go well (and that was worst case scenario price too).

I guess the next step would be working out the room-in-a-room thing for the live room, yeah?

I'd be going for as much noise suppression as possible in there, both in the walls and the ceiling.

Any suggestions?

Yep,

Staggered wall studs in live room with resilient channel on inner walls.
That should do the trick - takes more space but if you guys are REAL loud (which I think you are ?).

Wow, has it really been 8 months since I posted here last?!

Been on tour, recorded 2 albums and had a wonderful time juggling builders and investors and basically free time to get anything done with all of the crazy stuff the band has been up to...

But! Work has begun, finally!

I'll be starting a thread in the Construction forum really soon with lots of pics and no doubt some horror stories! HAHA! Before I start, I'd just like to say a big cheers to John for the initial design work and Glenn for the incredible amount of research and work he's put into the plans - you guys are the best!
