ok i built the speaker box and everything is set in the framing. now, when i add my plywood/drywall to cover the framing, its gonna make the monitors sink in 1/2" or more so is it alright to just pull the monitors out to compesate?

Yes pull them out so they are flush - the active speaker system I use was based on John Sayer's drawing and they have an inch or so at rear of box for convection cooling - they sound great.....go for it. 8)
