I have 2 rolls of 1/8" rubber/neoprene limp mass barrier - total coverage of about 180 sq ft. I don't want this stuff taking up space once the studio is built, but I don't want to throw it out either. I figure that I have it, I might as well find a use for it.

The studio is getting close to completion as far as framing, insulation, wiring and the first layer (osb in my case). The second layer will be 5/8 drywall. This is a "lightweight" studio that will not be used for overly loud sources. I mainly need to keep out sound - like light traffic, etc.

Any useful suggestions on what I could do with it?
Would it be useful in some manner if I cut it into strips?

Current thoughts:
1. Using it between the osb and drywall on one wall, but there's not quite enough to cover even one wall, so I would have to buy some more to finish it off - which I could do.
2. Using it to help beef up some doors. Not as good as lead, I know, but I already have this stuff.
3. Bass trap construction material?
4. Window plug construction material?
5. I've even thought about using it on my steel panel garage door.

Many thanks!
S

To be honest, I'm thinking "steel panel garage door" actually doesn't sound like a bad idea!

I may be wrong, and I'm sure others will correct me here, but it might just be a good way of damping the steel and adding a bit of mass at the same time, if you can figure out how to attach it, and also confirm that the doors can handle the extra weight.

This limp mass material adds isolation value to any wall or floor system. The best wall will have all of these characteristics; Stiff framing, high value insulation, entrapped air, decoupling, and mass. Plus a very important but often missed spec; the wall must not be the same on both sides. It is a limp-mass material made of high-temperature fused vinyl and no lead fillers.

Garbage. It might or might not, depending on how it is used.

Rubbish. Even Wyle-73 shows that maximum isolation is achieved with symmetrical walls.

And since the the rest of your posts were all spam anyway, even though this one made a feeble attempt to not be spam, you were banned anyway.

Actually, for spam, that was as good a post as any of the experts give. Difference being, knees jerk ;)

I guess you didn't see the other six! Pure unadulterated nonsensical spam. This one at least made an attempt, which is why I let it stand (after deleting the spam signature, which was the same in all of them).

Actually, as spam goes, this is perhaps one of the best efforts ever to try to fit in! Mostly, they don't even bother to try.

Yea, I saw them, or some of them Stuart. Like you, I have been at this for a long time and pretty much know it when I get around it.

Good call on your part, boss.
