Seriously super chunky!!
This is the trap for the front of the room, it will be behind the monitor spekers
Its 1m wide x 2.4 high x 30cm deep,
behind it is a triangular shaped air space.
It took two full bales of rock wool flexi to fill this up but it is solid,
Cut the rockwool using an electric carving knife and a jig/template.
Gonna build a frame around it tomorow and cover it over with some kinda fabric the next few days
nice one

cool

so, it's not superchunk (what's in a name.. ) at all?
(usually we call a complete corner fill (no airspace) a "superchunk" absorber. It's a name given by someone at, euh, RO or Gearslutz IIRc)

The air gap isn't really a problem though is it?
Just the name is wrong, I assume that a foot deep of rockwool flexi is going to do the job just fine.
when i tap the outside with a flat hand it sounds well deep and bassy.
IF THIS TRAP IS GOING TO CAUSE ME A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR GAP PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOON AS I AM GOING TO FRAME AND COVER IT TODAY!!
(sorry for shouting!)

yeah, it's just a "name" don't worry.

the air cav will not give you problems but it is recommended to fill the whole corner in order to have more volume of wool and hence better low-end absorption. The corner is where bass will build up, you want it "trapped". Broadbandpanels, on flat surfaces like a wall, however, benefit from having a bit of space between the surface and wool. Yeah, it's confusing...

If your current wall works, it's cool. If you have doubts, and money, fill it. You might wanna "measure" the difference if you like.

Its all about the money here at the moment,
So far i spent about €10000 (albeit 1/2 went on gear including some 10 lovely mics, did anyone else catch the RODE ONE DOLLAR MIC DEAL)
And to be quite honest, I only have about €800 to finish with however i do have most of the material for my plans to be complete.
However this is a huge trap already, Theres two full bales of rock wool in there, 2.4m high x 1m wide x30cm deep i am pretty confident it will do the trick.
Going to build the frame for the inside out wall at the rear of the cr today and thats going to be about 6m2 of 100mm thick rockwool with a fabric front. Added to this there will be four panels on the wall (1.2m x .6m x 120mm) of 50mm rockwool with a 70mm air gap behind and two panels of 100 mm rockwool with a 20mm air gap behind.
I think this should pretty much catch the worst of it  , (and like i said before it aint abbey road but it will work!!)

That name comes from where it was first designed and measured. Which has NOTHING to do with RO neither Gearslutz.
The complete name is: Studiotips Superchunks and is given in honor of Dan Nelson who established Studiotips. And therefore the abbreviated name is SSC.
The person who made him first that way (resulting from Studiotips discussions) which caused them to be measured and compared with other DIY and commercial alternatives: farmerbrown22002 (Harder-Sound) in cooperation between Auralex and Studiotips at Riverbank Labs (designed by Sabine himself) http://www.geneva.il.us/riverbnk/riverpag.htm

And this is the original source and measurements, almost never or rarely referred by anyone:
http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=535
Quote:
This design was introduced by forum member Harder aka FarmerBrown in the context of how to optimize the stuffing of the cavity of a Studiotips Corner Absorber.

And the standard corner absorber:
Studiotips Corner Absorber : abbreviated SCA
http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.p ... =534#p3969
Studiotips promoted this principle confirmed by personal lab measurements of mine which are the OLDEST lab measurements investigating the efficiency of porous corner absorption to be found on the net.

Thanks for clearing that up, Eric, I couldn't exactly remember which forum/website the name came from.
I've read the article and reports before but didn't figure that was the source.

(edit) sorry if this seems brash, i was very tired when i wrote it and I meant no offence to anyone,
only when i read back over it this morning did i see how blunt it was and how some folk might be offended,

this is the inside out wall we built at the rear of the room.
It was built in the shape below to bring symmetry to the rear of the room
as before that it was a very odd shape indeed.
Its got to layers of gyprock on the rear and will be filled with 100 mm flexi rockwool all the way around the front
And then i will finish it in purple fabric.

Shaz my partner is a colour therapist and she has chosen a colour scheme for the rooms we are doing up.
People will feel instanly at home and relax and she thinks also want to come back :D .
We are going to use a kind of sky blue in the vox booth, because it opens the throat chakra and helps people sing also it lets you pour forth your inspiration :| . In the live room we are going to use a terracotta all around the bottom of the walls to make people want to sit on the floor like they would at home
I wonder if anyone on the forum has done any research into this subject, I know colour has a huge effect on our person/mood from day to day and painting a small enclosed space like a vox booth the wrong colour will have a huge impact on the vibe of people using that space for a long time to come, right then lots of caulking to do !!!!!!!
anyway more pics :D

Maybe you could e-mail John, and ask him if it is possible to reset your password so that you can get in through your old account, to avoid confusion?
