I have a 2000 cubic foot room in which I need to circulate fresh air. The room will be soundproof and used as a control room/workstation (eventually an ISO booth will be installed inside the room). The room is approximately 16' W x 18' L x 8' H.

I'm concerned about static pressure, and I've searched plenty of posts on this site but have not found a source for a formula to figure the size of my intake dead vent and the size of my exhaust and fan.

I plan to build the passive intake inside the room, adjacent to an outside wall that faces a dusty parking area. Then, build an exhaust on the other side of the room that will vent out through the ceiling (there is already a 12" turbine fan on the flat roof).

I'm pondering the idea of a baffled passive intake, lined with duct board and filters on both ends. My exhaust would be metal or flex duct configured in a similar fashion to the one on this site, except my plenum would be entirely overhead...

Is there an "engineering/HVAC calculator" to figure static pressure?

Thank you!

here's one http://www.bry-air.com/files/trc/Static ... r%20r3.xls

if you have a lot of dust, you might consider either more filtering stages or put a duct up the side of the building to a higher level to avoid most of the dust.

Thanks for that, Glenn.

I can only port the intake on the outside of the building as high as 6.5'. It's dusty at times - Sonoran Desert - but with two filter stages and frequent cleaning of pleated HEPA type filters, it should be ireet.

It looks like the Fantech FG6 will do the job with 8' of properly mounted 6" insulated flexduct (including a 12" inline muffler) inside a well constructed overhead soffit for the exhaust.

I'll construct a 6.5' passive dead vent from plywood or MDF with a 8"-10" baffled channel, lined with duct board - inside exchange will end up near the floor.

Most of the time, it will be just me in the room. At times, 4 or 5 others. A variable fan control will be nice to increase or decrease air flow.

Based on my 2000 cubic foot room, will this be good/quiet?
