Hello,

been reading these forums for a while now, thanks so much to everyone for sharing their knowledge/experience, an invaluable resource :D

i used the search function, and had a look through stickies etc, but couldn't find an answer to the below..

Quick question, im building the 'Super door' from Rod's book (2nd edition) and ive seen a lot on here about using AV 4731:
http://products.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/offerpage.aspx?ProductID=18531&GroupID=20971&History=39326:1:30587:19748:19782:20935&ModelID=20971&pom=0
as the replacement for 'k' style trunk rubber.

but i also found this, AV 4742:
http://www.crlaurence.co.uk/crlapps/showline/offerpage.aspx?ProductID=18543&GroupID=20986&History=19782:20936&ModelID=20986&pom=0

which would appear to match the 'k' trunk rubber profile perfectly.
looking more closely at the profiles in Rod's book (pp 108), the profile for 'k' in figure 5.8 differs from the profile in fig. 5.9, fig 5.9 appears to be 'L' trunk rubber.

SO, bottom line, which should i use?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. FYI, the website above imports both types into europe and the UK for quite a reasonable cost if anyone is having difficulty finding it over here.

You are looking for at least two things in this type of gasketing. One is the seal...that is the mainest thing. Second is the ability to install the product.

The "K" which seems to be off the market or at least no where to be found, meets both of these requirements. the installation would require staples directly into the low profile of the "k", after you have glued this material into the door jamb.

That said, any product that gives a good seal, and has the ability to allow a solid installation, is going to be a good seal.

We had a thread @ Recording.org about this recently : http://recording.org/studio-constructio ... ype-k.html

Now I cannot speak for Rod G., but we hashed it over and he did not disapprove of the OP's selection of a different gasket.

But it was based on this same criteria that we had established, the ability to seal and the ease of installation.

Specifically the post refers to model 4731 : http://www.faccafasteners.com/Products/00021.htm which resembles your "L" shape.

So did you end up finding a suitable replacement? Just curious as I'm trying to keep tabs on materials for a future build. Thanks.
