Hi there,

new around here, I've been exploring this site for some time now,
making sure I got everything covered when it comes to starting my studio project.
There are some thingfs I'm not sure about.

When it comes to walls;
- is it better to use something like green glue or rubber mats between two Gypsum layers or, since this makes them act as one layer, better to screw them together without anything in between?
- Are there specific types of screwes one should use and may all the Gypsum layers be fastened onto the wooden frame? Or should I use nails/staples?
- Is gypsum a decent final inner layer to add an interior finish to, such as wooden panels, brick finish? And how should this interior finish be attached to the last gypsum layer?
- As for resonators, you need an insulation finish on which to attach wooden panels, is this still possible with a gypsum inner layer? Does this resonator count as an extra layer or is this merely an interior finish?

Sealings;
- As I understand the ceiling needs to be mounted on top of the side walls, having the same structure as the rest of the frame, but sometimes I notice designs in which you have RC's attached to the original ceiling, is this a seperate way to add extra soundproofing and do I have to see this seperately from the box construction?

Sealants;
- Is there an alternative to Green glue or any sealant (OSI?) which is available in Europe? Can I use silicon to seal corners/edges?

Sorry if the answers to my questions are widely accesible on this forum but I've read it over again a thousend times and these are the things I couldn't get an exact answer to.

Thanx a million,

Ace

PS; I'll be posting the studio design very shortly, as with contsruction pictures.

Grtz

Ok, thanx for the advice;
I'll try and find the answers to my questions on these pages.

I'd like to ask your professional advice on a studio plan;
I"ve started with the control room, the live room and postsync room is coming up.

The control room has a large window which I'd like to keep there, ' cause my opinion is that daylight is an advantage. The size is a bit akward, but I've tried out something.
Maybe some of you can tell me what the flaws are.
The speaker mount isn't tilted on the pic but will be in the end. The ceiling is gonna be lowered at the back of the room, being filled with hangers.

I'm kinda worried by the two opposite windows and the unsymmetrical roomsize.

Thanx,

Ace

Hi Ace. It's a huge SSL you got in there ! 8) :shock: :wink:

Things to keep in mind with CR design (IMHO)

-Strive for symetry
-Slopped ceiling should go from front to back of the room, getting higher at the back of the room

we would need more info as to, what is the available space you have to make this CR, you should also post in the design Forum and ask John about it , seem to me like a designer nightmare :? but there is always a solution.

Hey,
thanx for the info,
I was aware of the symmetry issues,
but the rear wall on the left makes it kinda hard,
I've figured out a new way to fix the symmetry problem, I'll post it in the design forum as you suggested.
I was planning to do the ceiling the other way round,
make it drop in height towards the back, and make it raise to the middle from just above the console, makig a little dome-type ceiling on the upper face.

The ssl desk is about 3.20 to 3.40 metres, pretty standard I'd say :wink:

Grtz,
Ace

Ace, could you also resize them pix a bit.
To keep 4:3, I'd say max 640x480 or 700x525

Hi Ace

Your ceiling can be higher in the middle and lower at the back, but this will create a focusing effect you'll need to acousticaly treat that point where the ceilings meet. And it is esspecially critical you do so if you are sitting right under that spot.
