OK, now we're getting the basement wall prep'd for new coat of Drylok. Scrubbed the walls w/ concrete etcher to remove the minerals off the block. And used the Fast Plug Hydrolic cement type stuff to seal the cracks in the foundation. Just bought 5 gallons of Drylok to paint on, but it may be another week or two before I have time to do it...

I've decided to edit this post for the time being. I'll repost the picture when the studio is complete, as I plan to incorporate everything in that picture into the studio construction. (Those of you who saw it, I hope you enjoyed.)

:D

Considering the title of your thread and the location of your studio, maybe "Underworld Floaters"...

Thanks Sharward.

Steve...yeah, I haven't a clue yet what to name this studio. As you noticed the temporary posting of it (since removed). I'm still trying to come up w/ a name so I can go get a business license.

SCORE!!!!!!!!

I received a phone call yesterday from a prior coworker. He just bought a fixer upper, and the previous owner was in the process of building a studio. Had about 400 square feet of 2" wedge (12"x12") sheets. And what appears to be about a bolt and a half of fabric (2 different colors).

Basically gave it to me. But he wanted $100 for it, or it was going in the trash. Sooooo... I just scored about $1500-$2000 worth of material!!!!!

Alright, now all I need for the control room and iso room is the Glass for the windows, the wood for the trim, and the HVAC ducts run.

SWEET!!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ahhhh, to live in a place known as "Music City" -- there's a reason for that!!

Congratulations -- hopefully it's not this crap though!

Well...actually...

I found on the side of one of the boxes, the foam is from that company. But, that's the least of my worries, as I didn't plan to really use much of it, w/ the exception of a few minor places (not the CR), but maybe an iso room.

The best deal, but I'm trying to find out what brand it is, is the fabric. The fabric sample cards I have from Guilford & Burch, don't match the fabric I got. I'll probably cut a corner of tonight and see what kind of flame spread I have w/ this stuff or if it's resistant to flame.

What results should I expect from either of those products???

I performed a brief fire test on the fabric last night. It resists for a few seconds, then burns, and drips like nylon or polyester.
:(

So, instead of congratulations, are we now offering condolences?

Not sure yet. I'm going to test a few more fabrics I already have, and see what they do. I may go ahead and use that fabric and can always change that out down the road. It's some nice fabric.

Just need trim and glass, and we'll be rockin' the control room. Oh, and hvac too... Dont' want to sufficate myself in a hermetically sealed room...

OK...Here's the flame test results I performed last night w/ the different fabrics I have. (I wish I knew what the new fabric was...).

OK, the other half bolt of fabric I scored the other night, does have some type flame retardent on it. It didn't like being lit to well, and just burned out.

The other wavy green pattern that is on the wall in the iso room...it melts.

Burlap...how fun. It burns quick and fast and smolders. Gee, I'd a never guessed that... I knew that was coming.

and of course I posted the other fabric results above.

So, that's what I've found out. Quite the interesting experiment of the different fabrics and the results.

Now for the other question...should I place the darker fabric on the ceiling, and the lighter on the walls?

This is what I'm looking to do, especially w/ the amounts of fabric for each I received. And in reading in years past here, having a darker ceiling makes the room feel larger?

Thoughts anyone???

Thanks.

OK,

Here's the latest... I installed the fabric on the ceiling and also the lower front wall and over bass trap area yesterday.

Looks great! And sounds better already. Now just need some trim to finish out around the windows and doors so I can finish the acoustic treatment around the rest of the control room.

We're one step closer to being done w/ the control room.

:D :D
