I've aquired about 1200 SF of the real deal. 3/4" Oak Hardwood Floor. I just need to go pick it up.

Also getting a plate reverb (yeah, the big bulky, where the hell do I put it kind of reverbs)

Got at least one coat of stain. Haven't decided yet if it needs another, or go straight to the poly...
but went ahead and installed to make sure the mounting holes would line up, as well as check the color...

It's amazing the Day & Night difference in how the room sounds now. The bass tightened up, and the highes got clearer...

I'd think that the felt would trap moisture between it and the poly, causing the plywood to rot - no comments from the manufacturer on this? Steve

The Tools...a Necessity.

The skill...it's practice and common sense.

I've learned I can do just about anything I set my mind to. (with the exception being car mechanics).

I guess that 7th grade wood shop class has come in handy...20 years later...

Sharward...here's the trick...no matter how little or how much you get something done in a day, every little bit gets you one step closer.

Hi mate,
How's it going? nice "Diary"..

I've some question re your floating floor concept.., when you floated your floors in the beginning (years ago..), in the Control room floors, you had small blocks of wood acting like "legs" on the 1/2" neoprenes but the Iso Room floors, you sit the bottom wood on the neoprenes without these "legs".

Q1) Is it more effective to have the legs? or is it just for levelling the floor?

Q2) For the 1/2" Neoprenes, can we lay the whole floor with a layer of it or is it more effective to cut the small pieces?

I'm now planning for my own construction, so I would need all the help I need.

Thanks & Regards,
[Charles]

Aaron, finally found the info I was looking for on felt vs. permeability, etc - from this link

http://www.umass.edu/bmatwt/publication ... riers.html

A couple of pertinent paragraphs, (even tho they're talking about house wraps the material tendencies don't change)

Housewrap or Felt?
Based on our testing, if I were buying a housewrap today, I would choose either Tyvek or R-Wrap, because they display the best water resistance. But so far, I've avoided the million dollar question - housewrap or felt? The truth is, there's not million dollar answer. In general, I don't think it matters a whole lot. If you get the flashing details right, and are careful installing the building paper, you will prevent 99% of the moisture problems caused by wind-driven rain and snow. Either product, housewrap or felt, will provide an adequate secondary drainage plane. And either product is permeable enough to allow interior moisture to escape.

As it happens, I have felt paper on my own home, and if I could choose between felt and housewrap and do it over again, I'd still choose felt. That's because I believe that under certain circumstances, felt outperforms housewrap. For example, an ice dam or roof leak may allow liquid water to get behind the felt or housewrap. It's also possible for the sun's heat to drive water vapor through the housewrap from the outside, where it can condense on the sheathing. In either of these cases, you now have liquid water on the wrong side of the wrap. Under these conditions, the liquid water would be trapped by the housewrap, which is permeable only to water vapor. Felt, on the other hand, will absorb the water, and more quickly dry to the outside.

Maybe next time I'll remember more of what I read; guess you know how to do it now, that's the main thing.

Glad you're likin' what the soffits do for you... Steve

The legs were for leveling the floor. The iso room I had done first, and that section was level. Had I finished it after the main control room floor, it may have ended up being the same height, but it's only off by about 1 1/2" or so roughly.

There was nearly a 3" fall from the one corner of the control room (front right) to the rear left side of the room.

You want the small pieces. Steve can explain this in more detail if needed.
