From thread ( http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4885 )

Well, it is time to move this thread to construction for sure. Notice the studio project name has changed to Soundmark Studios.

Updates for this weekend:

1. The East wall foundation slab is varing @ 5" down in some areas, making proper framing impossible. Gotta fix it.
We got two concrete finisher quotes on fixing things up and found the right guy for the job. Whew!
We will delay the framing of the East side (Studio B) and repair the floor next Tuesday, but have moved forward framing out the west side ( Studio A).

See Pixs...

Single-framed walls between the two studios? What's your exact wall plan, starting from inside CR-A and ending inside Studio B, layer by layer? Steve

Hi Steve,

The corridor between the two studios functions mainly to give access to the restroom in the back of the facility from the front lobby. The corridor will also have 2 other doors- 1 into Control Room B and 1 into Studio A.

The Corridor Walls will be 1/2" gypsum on -25 gauge Steel 3 5/8" frame with R13 on- 1/2 gypsum <seams caulked and then finished.>
(Mostly to keep us on budget so we can open and get our clients served. )

The corridor with one layer of gypsum on eash side will finish at 46" (hall width), so at a later time we will have plenty of room to add/stagger more layers of 5/8" gypsum to the corridor walls.

Tell me about it brother!

The mixer guy (opening the bags, dumping them in and QC the Mix) nostrils were SO NASTY at the end of the job.

(I gave him a $20.00 cash tip plus a 3M ventilation mask from Lowes and made him swear to me for his grandkids, that he would wear it from now on doing that gig.)

Hey, a level floor is nothing to take for granted mate!

Studio A will likely need a bit more treatment (heavier corner absorbers, few more clouds, etc) to sound as smooth as Studio B - A has a few coincident modes, namely 141.3 hZ, 2 axials + 1 tangential + 1 oblique at 141.7 hZ - then a couple of oblique and tangentials at 145 hZ, some "bunching" at 170, more at 180, plus 3-4 more coincidences still under 250 hZ.

These aren't real drastic, but plan on using a few more corner traps, probably even some between wall-ceiling corners, before you're happy... Steve

Yeah...thanks for looking it over mate.

Control A:

I plan on creating a cloud same width and 1.5x deep as the console and hanging it overhead the console profile, essentially covering the console and mix position and creating a pleasing splay angle away from the front wall side.

Well the Foreman was pissed when he saw the concrete repair...its not exactly level, and it should be.

Good news is that he has a plan to remedy the situation..we press on. Framing out B side tomorrow.

We also have to come up with a remedy for rocking between the studio/control rooms in the 2" gap I left between the double stud walls around the sliding doors. We have a few ideas we are kicking around, none of which sound very appealing so far...everything from dismantling one side of studs and rocking/finishing and reinstalling the second wall to "slipping rock between the walls and liquid nailing them to the studs(aint gonna happen on my watch).

What we cant have is apparent leakage between the A control room /A studio; B control/ B Studio.

What we will have is a solution and soon, or heads are gonna roll!

hehe

Got a couple of close-up pix of your gap/door thang? I'm not seeing it in my head without... Steve
