I think I read somewhere here that for any diffusion to take place the distance must be 20milli seconds or greater. Is this correct?

So in a control room situation that would be 6.8m from the speaker to the reflective wall?

I'm not sure what you mean by "diffusion" there, Luke. Rear wall diffusion is not normally recommended here for small rooms, for several reasons, and as John's article points out, large rooms with reflective rear walls have the potential for messing up your stereo imaging.

I'm not an expert on acoustics, but I've done some research on the subject of diffusers, and I've learned that using diffusion effectively is not as easy as the manufacturers of diffusers want you to believe. It needs folks like John to design a room properly to use diffusion, IMHO.
