Hello, 1st time poster here. Just wanted to get your advice on the setup of this room. I currently have a log home and I'm using one of the bedrooms as a control room. The North and West walls are made of logs and the South and East walls are drywall. I've attached a Sketchup file to demonstrate. I apologize in advance for my crude illustration. I've never used Sketchup before until today. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Room Dimensions: 16'8"w x 9'8"l x 8'h. The main concern I have is the bass traps in the SE, NW and SW corners. They're not the normal 2x4 size due to the door frames and window being in the way. Will it still be effective? Thanks in advance!

Hi "jmh2d" Welcome.

The basic idea is OK, but you need to fix the front of the room to get symmetry. Just build a wall across the front to straighten out that angle.

Hey thanks for replying. It actually is a rectangular room, I just really suck at using sketch up so I was having a hard time making everything look symmetrical. I was really just concerned about the bass traps being effective if they weren't covering alot of space and also if it looked like enough absorption. The room is very live sounding because of the wood walls, so this is the setup i am looking at going with. Currently I have the desk sitting where I have the couch positioned on the illustration an no treatment. It's an absolute mixing nightmare. Thanks again for your feedback!

It's a small room, so it will need LOTS of bass trapping! What you have may or may not be enough: it depends on the dimensions and type of bass traps, but most likely you will need more, especially if it is already sounding too live.

 :!: Undoubtedly that would certainly be a nightmare! There is no symmetry at all with that layout, your head would be almost exactly in the dead center of the room (worst possible location), and in addition you have the speakers firing across the short axis of the room! Switching to the layout you propose will make a big difference, for sure.
