Double layer of 13mm "Noiseline" plasterboard screwed, taped and plastered and sealed around the edges.

One thing I am thinking about now is colours - I read somewhere that painting a small rooms ceiling matt black makes the room feel bigger, any other colours do this as well that I could use in combination with a black ceiling?

These photos show a layer of 10mm rubber and the first layer of 21mdf flooring going over top. The rubber is there to help STC and help with impact noise going into the control room and outside world.

been busy of late so the studio has run a close second to life but here is some progress.

First internal wall boarded up inside/out with insulation being stapled to the back to deaden wall. You can see window and door openings now.

I have builder around this week to cut the second wall - you can see space on floor for this. i am also going to add another "finishing" layer of chipboard flooring in the live room.

I am getting the wall box and multicore cables made this week so I am on the downward slide i hope!!

Another progress report, I have had a week off work so have managed to get a few things rolling:

photo one, 50mm rigid insulation in live room walls awaiting cloth covering once the ceiling is plastered and painted and the floor is sanded and laquared.

photo two and three, new wall framing in place and insulated awaiting double layer of wallboard. This was hard to do as the new wall tapers away from the existing inside/out wall from 5mm airgap at the narrow end to a 100mm airgap at the large end. I actually had to cut some insulation off the back of the inside/out wall at the narrow end to get the new walls insulation to fit in the gap which is only about 100mm in total between wallboard layers.

Enjoy!!

Quick update:

(1) Wall box in the live room - pretty basic - 12 XLR's, four cans and two instrument lines.

(2) Close up of the door bottom showing seal on one side. Other side needs to be done still.

Thanks

JohnG

Hi John,

I just read your whole thread tonight and wanted to say I think it looks great and congrats on the progress.

It's giving me additional hope and inspiration for my own project.

Keep up the good work and those great pics.

Kathy

Thanks Kathy,
Now if I could only get my plaster friend around to finish the job he started three weeks ago I could get on with compleating it!!

Great work, Congratulations.

I'm been reading a lot about acoustics and seeing your work has helped me to figure out how to build some things in my own project. I already rented the place for the studio and I about to start, but I have to tell you that I'm afraid of such a big project. I had a small studio in my appartment for the last 4 years and now I'm going to make it bigger, that's why I rented a big place in a second floor but make it soudprooffed will be a challenge. I will start my own thread because I really need help. I'm in hurry too because I'm already paying for the rent and haven't started the bussiness

Ok congratulations again.
Ed.
