Well, construction is coming along, and I have all of you here to thank for it. Without this forum I would be recording in cardboard box in the alley. ;-) . If you would like to see some pix, http://www.wiseminds.com to check it out. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks guys. As I make some more progress I will post pix here. Trying to make a 1/06 deadline so time for posting and updates is at a premium. I started building the back wall of the control room and my first corner bass trap. I will post some shots of that in the next couple of days.

Hey man -- if you don't post pix, it didn't happen... Kind of like that whole "if a tree falls in a forest" thing. ;-)

Yeah, yeah.. I know.. new pictures coming this week. The control room basic construction is done as well as the wiring. I need to carpet one end, bring in the new couch and plants. I will take pictures before and after. I did some interesting treatments to a steel access door that I would like to share so, more to come!! Thanks guys!

Here are the latest photos.

Photo 1: The rehearsal room door. Framed 2" OC703 Fiberglass covered in fine muslin fabric and capped with stained half-round. Both sides of this steel door are treated equally. It is quite effective in silencing the downstairs rehearsal studios. Notice the back wall and ceiling both treated with fiberglass/muslin/half-round found throughout the studio. Should be noted that different thicknesses of fiberglass and densities were used. This was done to trap a broader range of frequencies.

Photo 2: All wiring is surface mounted using steel raceways. Here is the overhead halogen light switch capped off with a stained wooden switchplate cover that matches my monitor frames.

Photo 3: A wide angle shot of the lounge/listening area behind the control desk. There will be a sofa against the wall and carpet in that area when it is complete. All ceilings are framed and fabric covered fiberglass.

More to come.....Check my site for more pix.

Okay here is an update on whats going on in my studio. Drywall as stated is done. The control room has been carpeted and the base molding is down. Aside from the custom control desk that I am building, the control room is DONE!!

In the live room, the walls are being primed now, paint coming soon. The walls/ceiling will be painted the same in this room. There will be no cloth ceiling, just a cloud over the drum riser. Hardwood floors are going in next as is the carpet for the riser.

The desk I am building is very unique. I will post some photos of the progress tomorrow. We ARE getting close. ;)

I was lucky. I friend of mine who works for Avanex, a division of Corning INC, grabbed these 2 butcherblock workbench tabletops for me. Avanex has sold out and are moving their business to China. Bad for our economy, good for my studio desk. The tabletops look to be made of maple or pine, I am guessing maple by the weight. They were 36"x72" and 30"x72", and 2" thick. The surface was a little rough with razor and cut marks but, the belt sander+my back took care of those as you can see in the pictures.

Step one was to get these 150-175lb suckers cut down a bit. I went with the 36"x72" top for my main desk and the smaller for the "wings". There wasn't much math to be done, since the smaller top would obviously not line up with the main desk, I cut them diagonally to match the width of the main desk. This created the "biplane" wing look. The 2 wings were attached with 7" oak dowels. I measured and bored out opposing holes in the top, glued them up and then puttied the remaining gaps.

The next day I started in on the long process of sanding.. Man for being easier with power tools it sure kicked my ass. It was worth the effort though. Especially now as it is coming together and looking nice.

The desk will be supported by 2 custom built rack units (see pix) and 2 column legs in the back. I wanted the design to be elegant, simple, yet functional, and STURDY. No crushed kneecaps for me. :)

Thats it for now, more to come. Of course questions and/or comments are always welcomed.
